Famous Dogs


There are a lot of famous dogs. Who doesn’t love watching a movie or TV show with a dog as the hero? Here is a list of a few dogs that made it big in Hollywood

  • Lassie

No list is complete without including Lassie. She was the star of her own movie and eventually her own TV show and subsequent movies. She is a collie that saved the day.

  • Marley

Marley is the cute puppy in the movie Marley and Me. We follow his adventures throughout his life and see all the mischief he gets into.

  • Toto \

Toto belonged to Dorothy Gale in the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy loved him more than life itself, and he was by her side for the entire movie.

  • Beethoven

Beethoven is a loving St. Bernard dog, that appeared in the movies named after him. He got into a lot of trouble as a bigger dog that couldn’t really help it. 

  • Eddie Crane

Eddie Crane appeared on the TV show, Frasier, as Martin Crane’s dog. He and Frasier had an interesting relationship, and Eddie always got what he wanted in the end.

  • Shadow

Shadow is the main character and leader of the three pets in Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. He is a good boy who helps his friends get back to their home.

  • Old Yeller

Old Yeller is a movie based off a book by Fred Gipson. This is the story of a stray dog that befriends a boy and all the adventures they go on.

Those are a few famous real dogs. But they aren’t the only ones in Hollywood. Below are a few famous cartoon dogs.

  • Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo, the crime solving dog in Mystery Inc. was popularized in the 1960’s TV show, Scooby Doo Where Are You? And has had many movies and other TV shows since then.

  • Snoopy

Charlie Brown’s loyal beagle Snoopy first appeared in a comic strip by Charles Schultz, and eventually he got a few movies and a TV show as well. He is a distinguished writer, fighter pilot, and best friend.

  • Max

Max is the only friend of the Grinch, in How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. He helped the Grinch with his dastardly plan, and eventually won over the town.

  • Clifford

Clifford became famous in the children’s book series by Norman Bridwell, and eventually a TV show. He was the runt of the litter that eventually grew to be the biggest dog. He and his owner Emily Elizabeth went on many adventures in their neighborhood.

  • Pongo and Perdita

The famous dog couple in 101 Dalmatians. Their owners fell in love and got married, and so did they. They had puppies and then had to defeat the evil plan of Cruella de Ville to save their puppies, and many more

  • Dug

Dug is the companion of Carl and Russell in the movie Up. He has a translator collar and is the comedic relief of the movie.

  • Slinky

Slinky appeared in the movie Toy Story, as the Dachshund slinky toy that Andy had. He was loyal to Woody and helped the other toys on all the adventures they had.
